Research 101 for Teachers
Research is an integral of Common Core Standards for ALL subject areas. You are about to embark on a tour of some of the valuable resources provided via the BHS Library Cyber Center website that will help you meet these standards. Whether you are looking for resources for your class, having students conduct research, or need help with gathering resources and information, you'll find that there are many choices of resources available to you.
- Many of the resources on the Research page require a username/password. A link to the password list is available at the top of the Research page. You must be logged in to your school Google account to access this document.
- Record your findings today using the Google Response Form.

Before you begin, you'll need to open the Research web page on the BHS Library Cyber Center web site in a new tab in your browser. You'll also need to open the Google Response Form linked above in a new tab.
The following questions use the link for the BHS Library Catalog.
1. Click the link for the catalog on the Research web page. Login to the catalog using your Novell username/password. Search for a book on a topic that you might have your students research. Record the title of the book & the call # of the book.
2. Using the same search results from Question #1, click the Website tab and record the URL for a website on your chosen research topic.
3. Using the same search results from Questions #1 & 2, click the One Search tab. Choose one of the online resources listed and look at the results. There are many great resources here. Don't limit yourself to the first one in the results. Briefly describe the resource you found and how it might be beneficial for your students.
4. Click the FollettShelf link at the top of the DestinyQuest/catalog site. Browse the audiobooks & eBooks available. Record the title of one book you'd like to read or listen to.

5. Click the DISCUS link on the Research web page. Use the A-Z list, grade level or subject link to browse the DISCUS databases. Record the name of one database that would be useful for your subject/course.

The following questions use the link for Infobase eBooks.
7. Click the Infobase eBook link on the Research web page. Use the subject links on the left to find a book on a topic related to your subject/course. Record the title of the book.
8. Open the book you found in Question #7. Using the table of contents or the index (at the bottom of the table of contents), search for a topic inside the ebook. Record the page number on which the information is found. Also record the citation information found in the links on the left of the screen.
7. Click the Infobase eBook link on the Research web page. Use the subject links on the left to find a book on a topic related to your subject/course. Record the title of the book.
8. Open the book you found in Question #7. Using the table of contents or the index (at the bottom of the table of contents), search for a topic inside the ebook. Record the page number on which the information is found. Also record the citation information found in the links on the left of the screen.

9. Click the Soundzabound link on the Research web page. Browse by category (on the left of the screen). Find a music or sound clip. Record the category, title and the length of the clip.
10. Click the FAQ link at the top of the Soundzabound page. Browse the questions and record something that you didn't know.

11. Choose one additional resource on the Research page. Explore the resource. Record the name of the resource and how you might use it in your classroom.
